Cast nets

Cast Nets: Essential Hand Fishing Tool

Cast nets are one of the oldest and most effective tools used for hand fishing. Ideal for catching small to medium-sized fish, these nets are designed to be manually cast across the water and drawn back to the user, trapping the fish inside. Rezzaglio nets are perfect for fishermen who want a more direct and active approach to fishing, offering a unique and traditional experience.

Types of Rezzaglio Nets

There are different types of rezzaglio nets, each designed to adapt to specific fishing conditions and personal preferences:

• Circular Rezzaglio Nets: Ideal for fishing in calm waters such as lakes and rivers, these nets are designed to be cast with a circular motion that maximizes the coverage area.
• Hexagonal Rezzaglio Nets: These nets offer greater stability in running water and are perfect for fishing in the open sea or in rivers with strong currents.
• Lead Rezzaglio Nets: Equipped with weights along the perimeter, these nets sink quickly, making them ideal for catching fish swimming close to the bottom.
• Float Nets: Perfect for catching fish swimming at the surface, these nets feature floats that keep the net on the surface of the water.

What Are Float Nets Used For?

Float nets are primarily used for hand fishing, a technique that allows fishermen to catch fish directly and effectively. This type of fishing is particularly effective in shallow water and in areas where fish tend to concentrate, such as river mouths or coastal areas. Fishing with cast nets is appreciated for its simplicity and effectiveness, allowing you to catch a good amount of fish in a short time.

Technical Characteristics of Cast Nets

cast nets are constructed using resistant materials such as nylon or monofilament, which offer durability and resistance to wear. Some technical characteristics to consider when choosing a cast net include:

• Net Diameter: Determines the coverage area of the net and the amount of fish that can be caught in a single cast.
• Mesh Size: The mesh size is crucial in determining the size of fish that can be caught. Smaller mesh nets are ideal for smaller fish, while larger mesh nets are suitable for larger fish.
• Weight and Leads: Leads are essential to ensure the net sinks quickly, while floats can be used to keep the net at a certain depth.

How do you use a cast net?

A cast net is used by casting it in a wide, circular pattern across the water, then pulling it back quickly. This traps the fish inside the net, which is then closed with leads along the edge. It is important to practice casting to ensure that the net opens completely and covers a large area.

Where is the cast net?

The cast net can be purchased in specialized fishing shops or online, such as Pescaloccasione, where you will find different types and sizes suitable for every type of fishing.

How to choose the cast net?

To choose the right cast net, consider the type of fishing you intend to practice and the conditions of the water. Nets with smaller meshes are ideal for catching small fish, while those with larger meshes are suitable for larger fish. Also, evaluate the length and weight of the net based on your strength and casting ability.
